In Photos: (Sonic Youth’s) LEE RANALDO and the Dust live in Vancouver

Of course, seeing one member of Sonic Youth is enough. When I met Thurston Moore last year in Calgary, my mind nearly melted. But to see two? Lee Ranaldo and Steve Shelley? In a tiny club? Where you can watch the ease at which they lock in together? Where you can marvel at Ranaldo’s ability to fully shred on guitar as he played or – wait, yeah – BOWED it? Trip out to the rockingest tracks like “Xtina as I Knew Her” or the opener “Waiting on a Dream” that recall so much mid-career era Sonic Youth awesome? Grin when he covers Neil Young’s “Revolution Blues”? Decide that the gig was actually one of the year’s highlights and end up gushing at Steve and Lee like you haven’t done in an age? Yeah. All of that. Ugh. SO GOOD. \m/
