It was a good week in music, September 14-19, was. On Friday, beautiful sounds emanated from my Weezer Cruise buddies The Antlers (who managed to beat out the shitty system at VENUE with beautiful songs and an epic “Putting the Dog to Sleep”), joined by 80s throwbacks and openers Class Actress.

Saturday saw  a triple bill of Vancouver locals Mode Moderne (borrowing the finest in John Hughes’ soundtracks, Suede and Joy Division), San Fran punksters Terry Malts (friends of mine from Sled Island)  and Fresh & Onlys who rocked out at the Media Club. Sunday night, she shoulda rested but… the Commodore Ballroom’s horsehair dancefloor welcomed the ultimate awesome fun of Yacht and one of London’s best live acts (and my favourite gig of 2008), Hot Chip. To wrap up on Tuesday? A starry night outside in the trees at Malkin Bowl, with Animal Collective doing their weirdly wonderful squonk. Yeah, sometimes, gig season can really rock.\m/
