I was ridiculously excited to get an email this morning from a gig buddy, Giselle L., with some information about Foals coming back out to the US/Canada this spring. Thank you Consequence of Sound!
Why so giddy? UK’s Foals released one of the best albums of 2010 (it made it onto my 2010 Unlist – see October) called Total Life Forever, and played one of the best gigs I saw last year.
Broody, frenetic singer Yannis Philippakis is absolutely brilliant to watch. Even if he is a bit grumbly, Philippakis is all wall-climbing and stage-invasion-allowing and and bellowing and thwacking his guitar…and fantastic. And the band’s back end – drummer Jimmy and bassist Walter – were my heroes…. though they are, like 12 years old, and I felt like a cougar groupie talking to sweet, apologetic (because we couldn’t go out drinking) Walter after the gig. MAYBE THIS TIME WE CAN DRINK?! Are you old enough, Walter?
So when these suckers go on sale, do not go all wishy-washy and check your diary or wonder who’ll go with you. Buy at least two tickets, cancel everything else and get ye to the Foals. If you could see me now, I’ve got on my SuperNanny glasses on, pointy finger out, and if you don’t go I will send you to the Naughty Step.
